William Morris [1834 – 1896] was Britain’s most renowned designer of the 19th century and a leading figure in the Victorian Arts & Crafts Movement. His enduring legacy of exuberant colour and intricate repeating patterns are found in our Merton throw blanket.
Morris’s patterns were quietly radical, as they celebrated and elevated the English countryside. His designs were based on close observation – interpreted rather than copied - of flowers, plants and wildlife found in English gardens, hedgerows and fields. That delight in the abundance and rich colour of the natural world, filtered through his artist’s eye, is why his designs remain as popular today as they were more than 100 years ago.
Eight miles of 100% cotton are woven into every throw blanket. The tapestry-style throw has the vibrant colour, brilliant detail and luscious soft feel that can be achieved only through jacquard weaving.
Drape your throw blanket over your sofa or bed or useto stay cosy while reading and watching telly. Unlike traditional Irish woollen throws, it can be machine washed and tumble dried and will stand up to years of daily use. In fact, it will only become softer and more welcoming with time.
